Fishing Lake Seminole

Where the Flint and the Chattahoochee come together at Bainbridge, they make one of the great grass lakes in the country. Broad and shallow, filled with hydrilla, eelgrass, and pads, Seminole grows bass the way few reservoirs do, and it fishes like an enormous weed bed — flipping, punching, and burning a frog across the top rather than dragging deep structure. Bream and shellcracker bed hard in the sandy pockets between grass, and crappie use the standing timber and the old river channels. The two rivers arrive different colors and different temperatures, which is genuinely useful information on water this big. Those same grass flats make this duck country, so winter here belongs to a different crowd.

Target species

  • Largemouth bass
  • Shellcracker
  • Crappie
  • Bluegill

Local tip: No tide — read the river flow and the season. Current out of the Flint and the Chattahoochee turns fish on, hot afternoons push the grass bite to first light, and winter fronts bring both the ducks and the year's best big-bass fishing.
