Fishing Mexico Beach

Mexico Beach is a small, low-rise town on open Gulf with no high-rises and no pass — the fishing here is surf, nearshore reef, and a short run to some of the best-developed artificial reef fields on the coast. Pompano and whiting work the trough, king mackerel and cobia cruise the bars in spring, and the reefs a few miles out hold snapper and grouper. The town rebuilt itself after Michael and kept its quiet.

Target species

  • Redfish
  • Speckled trout
  • Pompano
  • King mackerel

Local tip: With no inlet nearby, wind matters more than tide — a light offshore morning flattens the Gulf for the run out.
