Placida sits on Gasparilla Sound at the top of the Boca Grande fishery, where the old Placida trestle and railroad pilings hold snook, mangrove snapper, and sheepshead. The surrounding flats and creeks give up redfish and some genuinely big trout, and it's the jumping-off point for the tarpon grounds a short run south. Structure and moving water are the recurring themes.
