About Surfside Beach
Surfside is the closest real beach town to Houston, which is why the sand fills up with day-trippers on any warm weekend. It is a small place — beach houses on stilts, a couple of blocks of town, and drivable sand running down the coast toward San Luis Pass. Surfers come here for the same reason anglers do: the jetties at the north end bend the swell and hold the sandbars, so waves shape up better beside the rocks than they do along the open beach. The rest of the time the Gulf out front is short-period wind chop, and the water color swings from muddy to green with the wind.
What this camera is good for
- Surf size and shape before making the drive from Houston
- Water color — brown, sandy or green
- How packed the drivable beach is getting
- Wind direction on the water

Common questions
- Is the Surfside Beach camera live?
- Yes — it streams on the operator's own site, and the link on this page always opens whichever stream is currently running.
- Does it cost anything to watch?
- No. Salty Forecast is completely free — no ads, no account, no paid tier, and nothing on this page is behind a sign-up.
- What are the tides at Surfside Beach today?
- Today's high and low tide times for Surfside Beach are on the tide chart page, drawn from the NOAA station at Freeport Harbor. Tide state changes what the beach looks like on camera — at low water the beach is at its widest.
- Why does the camera look hazy or dark?
- Live cameras sit outdoors: rain on the lens, salt spray, fog and low light all affect the picture. Night views are lit only by whatever is nearby. If the feed is down entirely, that is the operator's camera rather than this page — the conditions above still update.
