Fishing Vero Beach

Vero Beach fronts a quiet stretch of Atlantic with good nearshore reef within sight of the sand, and behind it the Indian River Lagoon opens into some of its widest, grassiest water. Snook and trout work the lagoon's spoil islands and docks, pompano and whiting run the surf, and the nearshore ledges hold snapper and the occasional cobia. Lagoon seagrass here has taken a beating and is slowly coming back.

Target species

  • Snook
  • Spotted seatrout
  • Redfish
  • Pompano

Local tip: Lagoon fishing follows wind and water clarity; the surf wants a rising tide and a light onshore breeze.
