The water at Cape San Blas
Cape San Blas is a hook of sand that wraps St. Joseph Bay, giving you two completely different fisheries a few hundred yards apart. Inside the bay it's shallow, clear, seagrass-floored water — some of the best scalloping in Florida and a strong redfish and trout flat. Outside, the cape's Gulf beach drops off quickly and holds pompano, king mackerel, and summer tarpon working the bar.

The Gulf shelf off this coast is shallow, which is why the water swings so much more between summer and winter than open ocean at the same latitude does.
