About Grand Isle
Grand Isle is Louisiana's only inhabited barrier island, a narrow strip of camps and beach with the Gulf in front and Barataria Bay behind. This camera looks over the grassed dune that guards the Gulf side to the beach and one of the segmented rock breakwaters set just offshore to slow erosion. The island sits far out ahead of the mainland, so weather reaches it first and storms come ashore here directly, as Hurricane Ida did in 2021. On an ordinary day the frame shows whether the surf has greened up enough for a beach or surf-fishing trip; on a stormy one, it shows how high the water is climbing toward the dune.
What this camera is good for
- Surf and water color for a beach or surf-fishing trip
- Water climbing the beach toward the dune
- Waves breaking over the offshore rocks
- Weather arriving off the Gulf

Common questions
- Is the Grand Isle camera live?
- Yes, it is a live stream running 24 hours a day. If it looks dark, it is night at the camera.
- Does it cost anything to watch?
- No. Salty Forecast is completely free — no ads, no account, no paid tier, and nothing on this page is behind a sign-up.
- Why does the camera look hazy or dark?
- Live cameras sit outdoors: rain on the lens, salt spray, fog and low light all affect the picture. Night views are lit only by whatever is nearby. If the feed is down entirely, that is the operator's camera rather than this page — the conditions above still update.
