About Dauphin Island
The Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Alabama's marine science station, sits at the east end of the island where Mobile Bay empties into the Gulf between Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan. Its camera looks out over that water, with the natural gas platforms of the lower bay standing on the horizon. Everything the bay does passes through this gap: outgoing tide, river water after heavy rain upstate, and most of the boats headed offshore from the western end of the Alabama coast. When the wind comes hard out of the south it is also where the Gulf first pushes up into the bay.
What this camera is good for
- Chop and whitecaps at the mouth of the bay
- Water color when the rivers are running high
- Whether the pass looks runnable before you launch
- Weather lining up over the Gulf to the south

Common questions
- Is the Dauphin Island camera live?
- Yes, it is a live stream running 24 hours a day. If it looks dark, it is night at the camera.
- Does it cost anything to watch?
- No. Salty Forecast is completely free — no ads, no account, no paid tier, and nothing on this page is behind a sign-up.
- What are the tides at Dauphin Island today?
- Today's high and low tide times for Dauphin Island are on the tide chart page, drawn from the NOAA station at Dauphin Island. Tide state changes what the beach looks like on camera — at low water the beach is at its widest.
- Why does the camera look hazy or dark?
- Live cameras sit outdoors: rain on the lens, salt spray, fog and low light all affect the picture. Night views are lit only by whatever is nearby. If the feed is down entirely, that is the operator's camera rather than this page — the conditions above still update.
