Fishing Orange Beach

Orange Beach sits on the Alabama side of Perdido Pass, and the pass is the hinge of the whole place — everything moving between the back bays and the Gulf squeezes through it, and trout, redfish and flounder hold the rocks and channel edges on either side. Offshore is the other half of the story: this is red snapper country, and the reefs and wrecks out in front of Alabama keep one of the largest charter fleets on the northern Gulf working all season. The beach itself is wide and bright and busy from spring break to Labor Day. Sea-breeze storms build fast on summer afternoons here, and they carry lightning worth respecting on open water or open sand.

Target species

  • Red snapper
  • Speckled trout
  • Redfish
  • Beach days

Local tip: The northern Gulf often runs one high and one low a day rather than two, so there may be a single good current window instead of a pair — and a steady south wind will stack more water in the pass than the tide does.
