About St. Andrews Pass
St. Andrews Pass is the cut between the Gulf and St. Andrew Bay, with St. Andrews State Park on the west jetty and undeveloped Shell Island on the east. The bay behind it is unusually deep and clear for a Florida estuary, and it drops off fast enough that big fish hold well inside — redfish and trout on the grass, flounder on the sandy edges near the jetties, tarpon rolling in the channel through summer. Shell Island itself has no road to it, which is why it stays empty and why the shuttle across the pass runs all season.
