About St. Lucie Inlet
St. Lucie Inlet is where the St. Lucie River, the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic all meet, and Stuart calls itself the Sailfish Capital of the World on the strength of what sits just outside — the Gulf Stream runs close enough that the winter sailfish bite here is genuinely world-class. Inshore, snook and tarpon work the inlet and the river mouths. The other thing this view tells you is water quality: after a heavy Lake Okeechobee discharge the river runs visibly dark, and the line where it meets clean ocean water shows up from shore.
