Fishing Fort Worth
Almost everything outdoors in Fort Worth happens along the Trinity. Its paved trail system runs for miles beside both forks, tying downtown to the stockyards, the parks, and the neighborhoods, and it carries runners, commuters, and road cyclists nearly every day of the year — north Texas winters are mild enough that riding season barely stops. Northwest of the city, Eagle Mountain Lake handles the boating, paddling, and swimming, with largemouth, white bass, and catfish for anyone who fishes it, and the wooded parks and prairie preserves on the edges of town give hikers something quieter. What shapes the calendar is spring weather: March through June is severe-storm season here, with hail, wind, and the occasional afternoon that ends a ride early, and July and August push everything back to dawn.
Target species
- Trail running
- Cycling
- Kayaking
- Bass fishing
Local tip: No tide — the variables are storms, wind, and heat. Fall is the best stretch of the year on the Trinity Trails, spring mornings beat spring afternoons during storm season, and by midsummer the trail is a sunrise proposition.
