Sabine Lake is a brackish bowl fed by the Neches and Sabine rivers, and everything that leaves it squeezes through Sabine Pass between two long rock jetties. Trout hold over the shell and along the ship channel edges, redfish work the marsh drains on both the Texas and Louisiana shorelines, and the fall flounder migration out of the marsh is the event locals plan their year around. River flow matters as much as tide: a wet spring shoves fresh water down the lake and pushes the trout south toward the jetties.
