About Amelia Island

Fernandina Beach occupies the north end of Amelia Island at Florida's northeast corner, where St. Marys Inlet separates it from Georgia's Cumberland Island and a vast spartina marsh runs back behind the dune. The tides up here are the biggest in the state — six feet and more — which changes the beach's shape between visits and floods the grass behind it twice a day. The sand is darker and firmer than the Gulf's quartz, and the island keeps a working-port character that the resort beaches further south lost decades ago.

What this camera is good for

With six feet of tidal range, the beach in this frame can look like two different places six hours apart — check the tide stage below before reading it.

Common questions

Is the Amelia Island camera live?
Yes — it streams on the operator's own site, and the link on this page always opens whichever stream is currently running.
Does it cost anything to watch?
No. Salty Forecast is completely free — no ads, no account, no paid tier, and nothing on this page is behind a sign-up.
What are the tides at Fernandina Beach today?
Today's high and low tide times for Fernandina Beach are on the tide chart page, drawn from the NOAA station at Fernandina Beach, Amelia River. Tide state changes what the beach looks like on camera — at low water the beach is at its widest.
Why does the camera look hazy or dark?
Live cameras sit outdoors: rain on the lens, salt spray, fog and low light all affect the picture. Night views are lit only by whatever is nearby. If the feed is down entirely, that is the operator's camera rather than this page — the conditions above still update.
