About Port Everglades
Port Everglades is a deep-water ship channel, and the drop-off outside it is close enough that you can be in 500 feet of water two miles off the beach — sailfish, mahi and wahoo on a very short run, with a famous winter bite when a cold front pushes north wind against the Gulf Stream. The channel carries cruise ships, tankers and a constant stream of sportfishers, and the camera looks straight down it. Inshore, the New River and the canal system hold snook and tarpon right through downtown.
