About Panama City Beach
Panama City Beach runs 27 miles of Gulf front, and its two long piers are the landmarks locals use to place themselves on it. This camera sits at Sterling Reef, next door to the M.B. Miller County Pier, and looks across an unusually wide public stretch of sand to the Gulf, with the pier reaching out on the right. The pier draws king mackerel, cobia and Spanish mackerel anglers in season, and the beach around it is broad and shallow-sloped, so the sandbar sits a long way out and the water between goes turquoise on a calm day. With the pier in frame, it is easy to judge how big the surf is against something of known size.
